From Artist to Entrepreneur

From Artist to Entrepreneur

The Journey of Starting Little Drift Co.

I never set out to start a baby clothing brand, but when I look back, I can see the threads were always there, quietly weaving their way through my art, my motherhood, and my love for creating things that matter.

I’ve been an artist for as long as I can remember, self-taught, endlessly curious, and deeply moved by nature. The sea, especially, has always been a source of calm and wonder for me. In 2016, my creative world opened up when I discovered alcohol inks. The way the colors flowed and danced across the paper lit a spark in me, and I dove headfirst into painting. That journey eventually led me to surface pattern design, where I could transform my love for shape, movement, and texture into designs meant to live beyond the canvas, on fabric, paper, and products that become part of everyday life.

While art has always been my passion, motherhood is my heart. I still remember the quiet hours rocking my babies, those middle-of-the-night feedings when the whole world felt hushed and sacred. I remember how soft their pajamas were, how important it felt to dress them in something gentle and safe. And now, as my children are grown and we begin dreaming of future grandbabies, that feeling has only deepened.

That’s where Little Drift Co. was born, from the blending of art, memory, and a desire to create something truly meaningful.

This brand is a love letter to those early days of parenthood. Every piece I design begins with hand-drawn artwork inspired by the natural world, seashells, coral, tide pools, and gentle ocean creatures. From there, I work with eco-conscious, pima cotton to create garments that are as soft and thoughtful as they are beautiful. I want parents to feel confident that what touches their baby’s skin is pure, safe, and made with care.

Starting Little Drift Co. has been a leap of faith, one filled with learning curves, long nights, and lots of heart. It’s a journey I’ve poured myself into, not just as an artist, but as a mom, a future grandmother, and someone who believes deeply in the magic of small beginnings.

Whether you’re here as a fellow parent, an art lover, or someone who simply believes in slow, beautiful things, I’m so glad you’ve found your way to Little Drift Co.

Thank you for being part of this journey.

With love,
Heidi
